Step-by-Step Concordance Guide

Grammatical Concordance

How to move from a grammatical question to comparable NT Greek occurrences.

What question belongs here?

Use this concordance when your main question concerns morphology, grammatical category, parsed form, syntactic role, or a recurring grammatical construction.

ሞርፎሎጂ፣ የሰዋሰው ምድብ፣ syntax ወይም grammatical role ለማጥናት Grammatical Concordance ይጠቀሙ።

Step 1 — Open the Grammatical Concordance

Open Grammatical Concordance

Step 2 — Begin with one grammatical question

Do not start by trying to understand every field. Decide what you are looking for, for example:

  • genitive noun forms;
  • a particular verb tense/mood/voice;
  • a pronoun or article construction;
  • a syntactic role;
  • occurrences of the same grammatical pattern in one book or author.

Step 3 — Use the search/filter controls

Use the available morphology, grammar, book/reference, lemma/form and view controls to narrow the data to the grammatical phenomenon you are studying.

Start broad, then add one filter at a time. This makes it easier to see which filter changed the result set.

Step 4 — Use “Grammar & View” deliberately

Where the interface offers Grammar & View or related view controls, choose the view that corresponds to the information you need rather than trying to display every analytical layer at once.

Step 5 — Read a result row from form to function

For each relevant occurrence, move through the evidence in this order:

  1. Reference — where does it occur?
  2. Greek form — what is actually written?
  3. Lemma — what lexical item is it?
  4. Morphology — what form is encoded?
  5. Grammar/syntax — what role is assigned?
  6. Context — does that analysis make sense in the verse/clause?

Step 6 — Compare occurrences, not isolated labels

The power of a concordance is comparison. Select several examples of the same construction and ask what they share and where they differ.

Worked example — a Genitive study

  1. Open the Grammatical Concordance.
  2. Use the available grammar/morphology filters to narrow results to Genitive forms.
  3. If the result set is large, restrict it to a particular book.
  4. Inspect the Greek form and morphology of representative occurrences.
  5. Examine the supplied syntactic/grammatical role.
  6. Open important verses in context.
  7. Compare the examples with the Grammar chapter on Genitive syntax.

Important — “Source-supplied syntax”

Where syntax is identified as source-supplied, treat the label as structured research data supplied by the source. It is not a claim that GTM independently human-reviewed every individual syntactic label.

Use the labels to find and compare material; evaluate important examples in context.

Advanced/QA panels

If the application exposes consensus, triage, source-comparison, audit or other research-maintenance panels, ordinary students do not need to use them for normal grammatical study. They are advanced research/quality-control tools.

Recommended workflow

Grammar rule → Grammatical Concordance → representative verses → Interlinear → exegetical conclusion

  1. Grammatical Concordance ይክፈቱ።
